The Singapore Prize is an annual award presented to small businesses or non-profit organisations that contribute significantly to enhancing local economies, innovation, community connections and relationships. Open to businesses operating both locally in Singapore as well as six other global markets, this competition features an award of more than S$630,000 as prize pool.
The 2022 Singapore Prize finalists include both creative entrepreneurs and experienced professionals working to solve social, economic or environmental challenges through products, services and strategies. Each finalist will receive up to S$60,000 funding in support of their next steps and winners will be announced in October.
A spokesperson from the organizer, Xero, explained their goal for this competition was to give winners “an opportunity to build upon their successes and further extend their reach”. Finalists will be chosen from entries submitted from small businesses and non-profit groups in Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, Singapore South Africa and the US.
Over 4,000 readers took part in this year’s Singapore Literature Prize consumer-choice category, recognizing seven works written in Chinese, English and Malay across three genres (four novels and two works of nonfiction). Ali bin Salim’s Ning Cai: Magic Babe Ning was chosen by consumers over Daryl Qilin Yam’s My Secrets Are Deadly or Pan Zheng Lei’s Rma Cureess by Rama Suresh’s A Man Who Loved Me by Rama Suresh.
Prof Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at NUS Asia Research Institute and Chairman of the Jury Panel stated: “We believe a prize such as this can bring history alive for citizens while helping ensure future leaders understand our legacy. The concept was first put forth during Singapore 50 Celebrations 2014 with support from Temasek Foundation.”
