The Hongkong Prize is an annual competition that honors students for their academic accomplishments and extracurricular activities, giving them recognition they so desperately deserve. Winners are honored at an awards ceremony with cash prizes awarded as well as access to Hong Kong research facilities.
The Prize is given annually to a student taking at least 48 credits in History during their third year of studies, who achieves exceptional results in History. Established by friends and students of Professor John D. Young in 1996 to commemorate his passion for Hong Kong history and belief that an education should include a comprehensive knowledge of local history.
Since its inception, the Prize has become a benchmark for excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate history studies. Furthermore, it provides students with an incentive to explore diverse historical aspects of Hong Kong. Finally, its aim is to raise awareness of local history’s role in its development.
Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited created this prestigious award in 2022, with the mission of attracting world-class scientific talent to Hong Kong while supporting forward thinking scientists to form an active innovation and technology hub. A review board comprising an independent Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team evaluates candidates based on scientific research achievements as well as their application, transformation, social or economic value creation and their social or economic benefits created.
