HK Prize is one of Asia’s premier scientific research awards, honoring studies with global reach. Each year this non-governmental merit-based prize attracts thousands of applicants; winners receive cash awards and access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities. Notable finalists have even put themselves at risk through their work – founding organizations providing shelter for homeless adults or creating liquid biopsy processes.
The HK Prize judging process starts with an initial screening, followed by review by each of its respective judging panels. After selecting winners in each category, winners are notified via email and invited to an awards ceremony where they’ll receive both a trophy and certificates as well as having their articles published both online and in newspapers.
BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE, hosted by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, seeks to recognize scientists and research teams for outstanding achievements in science and technological innovation and transformation of these achievements into real social or economic value creation. An independent judging panel will perform independent judgments and evaluations regarding candidates’ scientific or technological innovation achievements and social/economic value creation by the candidates.
To qualify for the H K Prize, scientists must submit an original research article which meets certain criteria. It must include clinical or epidemiological research; an observational or epidemiological investigation; basic science research or any combination thereof. Moreover, it must also be the winner’s first-authored work and cannot have been previously published elsewhere.
Students who win the HK Prize will receive a scholarship that can assist with tuition or living costs. As this competition is highly competitive, students should study hard and engage in extracurricular activities to increase their chances of victory – however it should be remembered that winning this coveted award requires both talent and determination!
Prize consists of a trophy and certificate designed by architect Yves Belanger. The symbolism of the award, as expressed both in its logo and trophies conferred to winners, juxtaposes two precious items – a pearl and jade amulet with holes pierced through them – to symbolize its “balance” between science and art. The design is intended to capture the energy of Hong Kong and its unique role as an intercultural bridge between Eastern and Western cultures. The HK Prize is open to researchers worldwide with applications due by 31 March 2023. Winners will be notified via email and announced on the HK Prize website, while being honored at an awards ceremony held in October of that year. At this ceremony, representatives from both Hong Kong’s Special Administrative Region Government and Central Government agencies in mainland China as well as many celebrities will serve as guests-of-honour. A committee comprised of experts with expertise in scientific research, law and finance will adjudicate for the hk Prize award.
