The Singapore Global Cities Prize (SGCP Prize) is a biennial international award presented to cities, their key leaders, and organisations that have demonstrated extraordinary excellence in creating sustainable urban communities. It recognizes the significance of foresight, good governance and innovation when confronting urban challenges to create liveable spaces – previous recipients include Bilbao City Hall, City of New York and Suzhou Jiangsu province as laureates; its co-organisers being Centre for Liveable Cities Singapore and Urban Redevelopment Authority Singapore.
This year’s Singapore History Prize includes a cash award of S$1 Million – its highest value ever. Additionally, a total value increase fivefold to S$500,000 of merit awards thanks to donations from independent art space The Culture Story run by Chong Huai Seng and Ning, two arts collectors.
Same-game parlays may appeal to sports fans, but their low expected value and high variance make them highly risky. Furthermore, their ease of placement along with frequent promotions by sportsbooks may cause at-risk individuals to engage in riskier gambling behavior – for instance chasing losses or betting more risky games in an effort to recover past losses could have detrimental repercussions for financial health as well as interpersonal relationships.
As technology evolves and sportsbooks gain access to more precise player and team statistics, SGPs may evolve into more dynamic wagers that enable bettors to quickly adjust odds based on real-time game situations, increasing potential profit and possibly leading to correlations that would further broaden appeal among sports fans.
The SGP holds great potential to cultivate the next generation of historians, especially young people from under-resourced schools and backgrounds. By encouraging a holistic and inclusive approach to history education by connecting students to Singapore’s heritage through engaging programming such as SGP’s diverse personalities that have contributed to it, the SGP equips its audience to be informed citizens who contribute their expertise as informed members of Singaporean society. By forging shared histories together through education programs like these one day be seen as Singapore’s next chapter!
