The Hong Kong Prize recognizes and rewards outstanding achievements of Hong Kong artists, arts organizations and arts education initiatives. Recognised as one of Asia’s prestigious art awards packages, winning artists receive cash awards to support their creative works or further studies – an open invitation is extended to both local and Hong Kong-born artists alike.
On December 8, 2018 (Saturday), all shortlisted artworks will be on display at an exhibition opening and the winner of the hk prize will be revealed at an exhibition opening featuring all shortlisted works. They will receive one of Asia’s most coveted art award packages: cash prize of HK$50,000 plus an attractive trophy designed by an Hong Kong artist. Two runners-up will also receive cash prizes.
On Sunday, Ten Years won first prize at Hong Kong’s top film awards despite antagonising Beijing over its portrayal of Hong Kong as it tightens Beijing’s grip. Though released to only limited cinemas within China itself and withheld screening by some cinema chains altogether.
At the awards ceremony, however, this film took home 12 prizes including best drama actor Aaron Kwok and newcomer Jessie Li winning best acting prizes respectively. Additionally, Article 29’s documentary on jailed pro-democracy activist Chow Hang-tung entitled ‘She’s in Jail’ celebrated her courage, resistance, and stubbornness despite incarceration under an authoritarian regime and grieving loved ones she lost along her journey of defiance.
An unprecedented year at the races saw 12 Hong Kong-trained horses claim season-ending accolades in G1 races worldwide, led by Ka Ying Rising (Shamexpress), Romantic Warrior and Voyage Bubble. John Size won his 13th Hong Kong Trainers’ Championship while Zac Purton secured his 8th Jockeys’ Championships respectively.
South China Morning Post earned a record number of awards at this year’s Hong Kong News Awards ceremony on Friday, including its City desk claiming best scoop prize and editor Edith Lin and Jeffie Lam being honored as best investigative journalists. The ceremony came amid calls by Hong Kong’s leader for journalists to maintain professionalism amid rising protectionism and global hegemony.
