Sidney pools offer more than just an excellent place to cool off in the heat; they’re also great opportunities for aquatic exercise and rehabilitation. From leisure swimming, water aerobics, diving and water polo to recreational diving and water polo; there’s sure to be an area of the pool suitable for every need – unlike many recreational facilities they’re often open year-round allowing plenty of opportunities for socialising alongside an excellent swimming experience in filtered harbour water!
Swimming pools are an integral part of Australian culture, boasting more private pools per capita than any other nation. Not only are they places of relaxation and rejuvenation; they are also rich with symbolic meaning for communities and loved ones to come together. As such, it is critical that we carefully consider all available sidney pools before selecting one for our home.
No matter whether it’s inground or above ground pools you want, many factors should be taken into account, including budget and desired type. Fiberglass pools tend to be easy to install and come in various sizes and shapes – however if custom pools are desired then fiberglass may not be your ideal choice as its shape cannot be modified according to specific needs.
Sydney rockpools such as Bondi Icebergs have long been celebrated, yet there are many other swimming pools throughout Sydney that are also iconic worldwide. North Sydney Olympic Pool, for example, is considered an icon and was home to the Empire Games held there in 1938 – an early predecessor of today’s Commonwealth Games.
But the history of the pool serves as a warning about how local councils approach major infrastructure projects. When the council wrote to Premier Mike Baird in 2015 to request $25 million for pool redevelopment, cost overruns and delayed completion dates soon became familiar tales. Work didn’t start on this project until February 2021 – 6.5 years have elapsed since councillors approved its design!
