The Hong Kong Prize recognizes excellence in Hong Kong across art, education, business, health, science and technology as well as media fields. The prizes aim to boost Hong Kong’s competitiveness while encouraging an innovative society; an awards ceremony will take place at HK Convention and Exhibition Centre on 20 November.
Professor Stuart McManus of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been nominated as one of four finalists for this year’s Dan David Prize – one of the world’s premier history prizes. The prize recognizes exceptional scholarship that illuminates history while deepening public understanding through greater historical knowledge.
CUHK is the first local university since 1992 to receive this prize, established through an endowment donated by late Professor Wang Gungwu in his memory to honor his outstanding contributions in historical research and teaching. Open only to Grade 11 students from local areas who achieve high academic results on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as well as display excellence in personality, character, talent, conduct, extra-curricular participation and contributions to community. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges; they will each be honored with both a cash award and certificate award.
Pony Ma, Chairman and CEO of Tencent Foundation, and other distinguished scientists collaborated in unveiling the Xplorer Prize 2022 to encourage young people from Mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong to explore unexplored areas of basic sciences and frontier technologies. With prizes up to RMB 3 Million over five years, this Prize seeks to foster young scientific researchers’ adventurous spirit while creating a new generation of talented people in Hong Kong, thereby contributing towards its continued development as an international science and technology hub.
